Whey Protein Smoothies – Your New Dessert

September 7, 2010 by Matt

I have to be honest, I don’t really have a sweet tooth anymore because I started realizing that those foods were loaded with sugars, artificial sweeteners, lots of sodium, and unhealthy calories that zap your energy. I also know that most people love to have that guilty pleasure but I’m here to say for the sake of your health you need to ditch that stuff immediately.

I have a new guilty pleasure that is healthy for you and to be honest so delicious it’s amazing. To help lose some of my body fat, I drink whey protein shakes, or you could call them smoothies.

I usually do this mid afternoon in between lunch and dinner before I go exercising because it gives me a great boost of energy and it’s light on your stomach. There really are countless smoothies I blend up but here is my recipe for my favorite one right now.

-Mixed Frozen Berries (Blueberries & Blackberries)

-Half a Frozen Banana

-A quarter cup of organic coconut milk (or a quarter of the can)

-Splash of water to make it a thinner consistency

-Whey Protein Powder

First off we’re getting great natural sugar, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids from all the fruits. Second we’re getting potassium from the banana. This helps fight muscle fatigue, cramping during workout, and helps the functioning of your nervous system.

Coconut milk is loaded with electrolytes more than any sports drink you will have out there and because it is organic it doesn’t have any of the side effects that sports drinks have such as storing fat and high fructose counts.

Then adding the water and whey protein is a way to get more vitamins and amino acids that your body needs.

I guarantee once you try this, you will be absolutely hooked! It really is like drinking a dessert that is so healthy for you. Whether your starting your day off with a smoothie or having one mid afternoon, you really will feel a great burst of healthy energy you get from all these fresh foods.
