Chocolate – How Can This Be Healthy For You?

November 10, 2010 by Matt

So come on now you don’t think I’d actually tell you that chocolate is good for you did you? Oh you did? Well you’re actually partially right! But read this article before you go digging into that trick or treat basket or hit up Costco for assorted chocolates.

First off let’s get one thing straight and that is that a very, very small amount of chocolate has been linked to health benefits. But it’s also a certain kind of chocolate as well which I’ll get to when you keep reading.

Chocolate contains what is known as flavanoids which are great for your heart. Flavanoids are also found in foods and beverages such as apples, cranberries, peanuts, onions, and even tea – which my last blog post was on.

Dark chocolate is what you want to stick with however because the flavanoids are very high and dark chocolate is less processed than milk chocolate which is most of your store bought candy like Snickers, Milky Way, 3 Muskateers etc. So then if you can’t have all this stuff what are you supposed to eat?

These little Dove dark chocolates are your number one best bet.

So right about now you’re probably thinking, “What about the fat?” Well a Dove dark chocolate serving size which is about 40 grams, contains 210 calories and 13 grams of fat, 8 of which are saturated, although some of this saturated fat is in the form of stearic acid, which is converted by the liver into a “healthier” monounsaturated fat.

The healthy amount to eat is 2 little chocolates a day. So go ahead and indulge your little sweet tooth here by going out and grabbing some of your own to snack on.

And if you really like chocolate and want to stay healthy you can always try chocolate whey protein which not only will give you a bit of the sweetness you crave but it’ll also help you lose weight. You can’t go wrong with that.

Obviously, since you’re on this page you probably saw it because you were looking for whey protein. But I love giving some additional tips on overall health to help everyone out.

Go here and check out an article I wrote on whey protein weight loss for some great tips on how you can lose those unwanted pounds and also give your body the boost you need for a longer and much healthier life.
