Up To 80% Of American Are Magnesium Deficient!

August 2, 2011 by Matt

This is a staggering statistic I just read about saying studies have shown Americans are anywhere from 60-80% deficient of Magnesium in there diet.

But to understand why this is so bad we need to understand why we need Magnesium in our diets. The crucial health benefits of magnesium include solving or preventing osteoporosis, hypertenstion, heart attacks, constipation, migraines or headaches, leg cramps, kidney stones, gallstones and lots more.

There are however some great foods that are high in Magnesium to help give you the benefits that you need. Swiss chard, spinach and a lot of other dark greens are some of the best and highest rated foods for this. If you remember about my breakfast shakes I posted on a few posts back this is one of the reasons why I use spinach and kale every morning.

Very good sources of magnesium include squash, broccoli, halibut (wild caught if you can find it), turnip greens, pumpkin seeds and even peppermint.

Other good sources of magnesium including cucumber, green beans, celery, kale and a variety of seeds, including sunflower, flax, and even sesame seeds.

What is great about these foods too is that you can throw them in your whey protein concentrate smoothie and get basically everything you need for the day in a given meal. Of course you will get hungry again but everything you need will be in one shake.

Hope you enjoyed the post.
