One of the most common misconceptions about grass fed whey protein powder is that it has the same value as other types of whey supplements of a different source. In reality though, grass fed whey protein powder has more health and body-building benefits than other types of protein supplements such as those that are derived from grain-fed animals, otherwise known as grain fed whey protein. Here are some of the advantages of choosing grass fed whey protein powder.

E. coli infection is less likely – Escherichia Coli, otherwise known as E. coli is a bacterium that is normally found in the intestines of both animals and humans. They are generally harmless with the exception of the O157:H7 serotype, which can cause food poisoning. This can turn lethal if the bacteria is ingested in high concentration or amount.

Other types of E. coli are also known to cause less severe infections. In a review conducted by research professionals at the Food and Feed Safety Research Unit of the Southern Plains Agricultural Research Center, it was revealed that ten years ago it was discovered that grain-fed cattle and other animals were most likely to be carriers of this lethal serotype. It was then established that the safety of the meat and other byproducts of ruminants is greatly influenced by its diet.

It contains less toxins – In a study conducted by researchers at the Department of Biological and Computing Sciences of University of Alberta in Canada, it was revealed that cows that were fed high-grain diets are more likely to excrete toxins such as Ethanolamine, Methylamine and Putrescine which can be transferred to their digestive fluids and other byproducts.  These toxins are known to cause protein breakdown, liver damage and other medical problems. This is why choosing grass fed whey protein powder is the much better option.

It is less likely to cause inflammation – In the same study conducted by the University of Alberta in Canada, it was revealed that grain-fed cows are more likely to excrete byproducts that can cause inflammation such as short-chain fatty acids. Considering that muscle damage and pain after exercise is generally caused by inflammation due to over-exertion, ingesting chemicals that can increase the likelihood of inflammation in the body is not recommended. Choosing the supplement which can alleviate muscle damage and pain should be the priority especially for individuals who perform high intensity exercises.

It increases muscle strength – One of the most common reasons why individuals plateau when they are doing the same exercise routine over and over again is because the body is already getting used to the resistance and challenge that this routine provides. This is why it is highly recommended for individuals to move on to harder and routines that are more challenging. For some, this can be a burden since they do not have enough energy. This is where choosing grass fed whey protein can come in handy since it provides the body with the much-needed energy.
