  1. Road Trips Can Be A Health Killer

    July 27, 2011 by Matt

So just recently I had moved across country from Orlando, Florida – Home of Mickey Mouse yes and all the way out to Los Angeles, California. It is definitely a big change but in a great way. I’ve spent a lot of time out here but one of the reasons I love California is because everybody so health conscious which is great for me and helps me fit in when I tell people I’m a nutritionist.

But I will tell you the hardest thing for me was eating healthy driving out here. If you are going on a road trip this probably won’t even cross your mind but you tend to eat quickly so you can stay on the road and that can be a calorie killer. Even for me I tried my best but it is just simply not easy.

Which brings me to the point that you should bring some snacks along with you. Not only that but it helped me realize I should be telling you guys that when you are hungry it is ok to graze throughout the day and have 4-6 smaller meals with some snacks.

HOWEVER: Make sure those snacks are organic and healthy. One of the best snacks I took along my trip was assorted nuts that were low in sodium. These helps fill you up and give you lots of protein that you are going to need. Also dried and fresh fruits are great to snag as well.

But I also wanted to share with you what happened when I was traveling through Austin, Texas to stay at my other buddy Matt’s house. I had asked him if there were any juice bars around and he pointed me in the direction of this place called “The Daily Juice Co.”

Needless to say this place was incredible. It was loaded with incredible superfood, natural, and organic juices and smoothies that give you the natural boost I’m always talking about with whey protein smoothies.

I had this natural coconut, banana & kale drink called the CoCo Loco that was incredible. And luckily for me because I was driving and moving all my stuff I happened to have my favorite whey protein powder in the car with me I threw in.

That was a lifesaver and really helped me stay on track. But that being said if you are ever in Austin Texas look up “The Daily Juice Co.” because it is this little hippie joint with tons of great stuff and information on health food and they are spot on.

The other interesting part was how happy everybody was there. I mean smiles for days on everyone’s faces and I could tell that is partially because they enjoy living and eating a healthy lifestyle.

So make sure you are doing the same. I know it’s been a while since my last post but chalk that up to the big move. So stay healthy and if you’re on the road or stuck in traffic get yourself some nuts or grab a whey smoothie to take along the way.

More posts coming soon — I promise 🙂

  2. Whey Protein Is Considered The Perfect Protein

    June 23, 2011 by Matt

There’s been this ever slight emergence of the term BV, or Biological Value, in the health and food industry. Maybe you have heard of this somewhere while reading about protein supplements, but what exactly is this? By the time you get through reading this article you are going to understand not only what biological value means but also which food contains the perfect amount.

Without further ado there is one protein supplement that is considered by the health food industry to have the perfect biological value and that is whey protein powder. In fact it was given an actual 100% biological value which is anywhere from 4-45% higher than other proteins such as meat protein, egg proteins, and even soy proteins.

What does biological value actually mean though? Well it refers to the amount of the supplement that your body will absorb. In this case your body will utilize all the great vitamins, minerals, proteins, and antioxidants that are included within the whey protein.

This is just one reason why whey protein is the absolute best protein powder on the planet. However not all whey proteins are the same because they are all manufactured differently but there are really two types of whey proteins you will discover. Denatured whey protein and undenatured whey protein. What’s the difference?

Denatured whey protein is whey processed at higher temperatures during the cheesing process. This actually tends to kill enzymes and nutrients. For this reason you want to make sure you are taking the best protein supplement you can so if you want to find the best whey protein then go for an undenatured grass fed whey protein.

What is great about this though is that it is so well rounded that it is actually considered to be a superfood as well. If you are constantly consuming superfoods it will do wonders for your body. Not only are you going to be loading your body with those vitamins and minerals that we know are getting absorbed but because it is so well rounded you are going to get an extra surge of energy you might be desperately needing.

These are the key ingredients to not only losing weight, but toning your body, building up your immune system as well as fighting off bad cholesterol and also fight off certain causes of cancer.

So when you are searching for a supplement to take that will give your body everything it needs look no further than undenatured whey protein powder.

  3. A Quick Recap Of Some Whey Protein Benefits

    June 11, 2011 by Matt

I wanted to take the time to write a quick little blurb for people that are looking to find the best whey protein powder out there on the market and why it is so crucial to be constantly taking your whey. After this post you will have a great understanding of why this stuff is known as the king of supplements.

Well first off you need to realize that this stuff is:

-Rated the number one protein on the planet! (Above soy protein, meat protein, and even egg protein)

-It is rated by the food and health administration to be a superfood because it is packed with vitamins, minerals, and essential enzymes.

-It contains the number one antioxidant on the planet that our bodies are deficient of known as Glutathione. (This is only consumed through raw meat, raw egg, and raw dairy – fortunately for us is what whey protein is made from)

-It has known to lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and prevent Alzheimer’s Disease.

-Drastically helps fight off numerous causes of cancer by warding off free radicals which cause an imbalance in your healthy blood cells.

-It is said to reduce the signs of aging as well.

There really are tons more reasons but I just wanted to recap why this is so important to consume. Another quick note is that you want to make sure you are taking this consistently and I can’t stress that enough.

It would be like working out one time a week and expecting drastic results in weight loss. It just won’t happen as quick as you want so make sure you are sticking with it.

Another great reason to be honest most people take whey protein is really to make sure they are supplementing their diet properly.

Whey protein can drastically help cause weight loss! Here’s how…

Because this is a natural organic supplement and because it is a superfood it helps curb your appetite so you don’t over eat unhealthy calories or processed foods. Studies have shown even overeating healthy calories you won’t gain weight. This would be like stuffing yourself with fruits or vegetables. Your body will burn those easily and use the vitamins.

So for most people I know they love the health reasons and benefits that come with whey protein but the weight loss factor and helping tone your body is another great point to drive home when it comes to consuming this.

If you would like to learn more about whey protein powder you can check out the rest of the site or the article linked above.

Until next time guys and gals!

  4. Healthier Cows Mean Healthier Whey

    March 31, 2011 by Matt

This is something I talk about quite often to people but I really want to drive home the point and that is that healthier cows mean healthier whey. This is hands down the case here. Look at it from this perspective. If you have a cow with a healthy and organic diet like grazing year around on pesticide free grass and free to roam around getting exercise that is a healthy diet.

To be honest I tell the same thing to my friends. This is not to say they’re cows but they should get exercise and eat fresh organic fruits and veggies because they are power packed with vitamins.

Also you want to make sure that the cows are not injected with any sort of hormones because that makes it into the blood stream and will eventually make its way into the dairy, which in turns then forms the whey. See how this can be a vicious cycle.

Don’t let me freak you out, it’s not to say that certain whey proteins are bad, it’s just the fact that I want you to understand which makes for the hands to creme de la creme of whey proteins and that is 100% raw organic grass fed whey protein. These are the healthiest cows and in turn the healthiest whey is produced.

Additionally, you want to make sure you are consuming undenatured whey protein powder. I have an article explaining the difference more in depth but for time sake I’ll just explain it quickly here. Undenatured whey protein powder is considered cold processed so even though it is heated up it is at a lower temperature so it keeps the chemical make up of the proteins more organic and natural rather than being heated at extremely high temperatures.

Like when you cook a chicken. Before you cook it you have this raw fleshy pinkish hue type of  a protein that is a little bit flaccid or jelly like. After you cook it the poultry turns white and the proteins have hardened creating a more solid piece of meat. Man this is making me hungry for some bird. Cage free chicken of course. 😉

Where was I? Oh yeah healthy cows. I mean just look at how happy this guy is? He will no doubt produce an excellent quality whey protein!

I hope that picture doesn’t scare you because it made me laugh. But I know sometimes finding a whey protein for you can seem like a daunting task but to be honest, if you are looking for one then you are already on the right track. The fact you made it to my website and my blog are definitely the right track.

Listen, I would not tell you to get anything that would not be the ABSOLUTE BEST! I’m kind of weird like that, but I firmly believe in only recommending things that I personally take or use. In which case, are the whey protein powders on this site.

There is a lot more great information on this site but I really want you to just take action, do yourself and your body’s health a favor, and get yourself some to try. I have no doubt in my mind that you will love this stuff the first time you try it.

And if you want to read any more tips or nutritional advice you can go check out some more on why whey protein powder is going to be perfect for you, because honestly it’s for everyone. They just might not know it yet.

  5. How Whey Protein Weight Loss Will Work For You

    March 22, 2011 by Matt

So as a nutritionist, I get asked quite often how whey protein actually works with weight loss. I think a lot of people misconstrue the fact that because it is a protein supplement that you automatically gain weight but that isn’t true at all. What it actually does is replace unhealthy calories you most likely consume from the foods you eat like anything processed, anything in a can, or virtually anything you get at a restaurant with extremely healthy calories.

Recent studies have actually shown that even if you overeat healthy foods like organic fruits and vegetables your body won’t store that as fat but will utilize all the healthy calories. So adding healthy supplements are the same. So let’s get to why whey protein works exactly because it is similar.

Whey protein, because it is so high in protein counts and is higher in protein by weight than any other one out there on the market to date, it helps curb your appetite. This is how you avoid those mid day junk food cravings that give you the unhealthy calories in your diet. I know for me personally, I reach for the whey protein usually mid day and make a whey protein fruit smoothie that is loaded with vitamins and minerals so that I will fill up on foods with extremely high health nutritional benefits.

This is what is extremely important.

So now knowing that you can load up on healthy foods and that whey protein will help fill you up during the day and also give you a natural boost in energy because it is so well rounded for you that your body will start burning off the fat that was being stored by unhealthy foods or ones that are high in wheat, or gluten.

Here is when you will notice yourself literally melting away fat and your body will get extremely lean. It is also where you will start seeing that beach bod come back even before you even go to the gym or exercise. However, now that you have whey protein powder in your system and you are no doubt feeling incredibly energized is when you want to utlize that energy and start getting in a workout routine because that will take your body to a whole new level.

I tell people all the time don’t freak out about working out. You don’t need to go run 5 miles, or do heavy lifting at all. Simple cardio is best and interval training is the best by far. So jog for a bit then walk. Then jog some more and keep repeating that. The fluctuation in your heart rate actually tricks your body into working overtime but that’s where we get a little more scientific.

I just want you to see how the cycle tends to work for everyone or at least most people who start taking whey protein powder. Because the results are almost immediate. You will notice changes within literally a day when it comes to energy level and easily within the week when it comes to dropping those unwanted pounds and getting that body that people are envious of.

It’s always great to have a great body and get in shape because that definitely has its perks and it’ll give you a whole new level of confidence and happiness about you. They often say that people who smile a lot are truly happy and life is going well for them. Well the same happens when you feel good and start feeling better about your body. It gives you a confidence that you don’t get anywhere else. Trust me I know.

With that being said you can go here if you want to get my recommendation on the best whey protein powder that I’ve found out there on the market and the two I personally take every day. I absolutely love these and they are delicious without that chalky aftertaste everyone hates. Remember that when you purchase something for your health get the best one that’s out there. Don’t settle. It’s time to take the bull by the horns so start by taking some action in your life today.
